Summary
Bonhams brought 99 cars, a motorcycle and a trailer under the hammer on February 6, 2020 at the Grand Palais in Paris as part of a one-day auction that was preceded by over 130 lots of automobilia. Among the cars, several Bugatti cars as well as a rare Ferrari Dino 206S/P were looking for new owners. On average, the cars were almost 60 years old, and the average bid for pre-war cars was even higher than for post-war cars. In total, almost EUR 20 million was raised for the cars, with the flagship, a Bugatti Type 55 Two-Seat Supersport from 1931, selling for EUR 4.6 million. This auction article analyzes the results, describes the atmosphere on site and shows all the vehicles in over 150 pictures.

Preview (beginning of the article)
Bonhams auctioned 99 cars, a motorcycle and a trailer at the Grand Palais in Paris on February 6, 2020, preceded by over 130 automobile lots. Around half of the cars' estimated value of almost EUR 40 million was realized. EUR 299,859 was paid per vehicle. 64 percent of the vehicles on offer were sold, with an average bid of just under 74 percent of the median estimate. The auction at the Grand Palais was well attended, although one had the impression that in other years there were more bidders on site. There was a lot of fun and commitment in the haggling and even the cars that were not sold reached quite realistic bidding levels, but then failed to reach the minimum price. The "no reserve" rate of 24 percent was comparatively low.
