Within a few years, theMonte haddeveloped into a monotonous, if not the most boring rally in the drivers' world championship. In 1975, all the Alpines were desperately competing against Munari's Stratos. In 1976, the pro-Munari strategy left a bland taste and in 1977 it became even more boring: corporate politics, not rallying. Fiat boss Agnelli sends a whole host of his products to the starting line: Lancia Stratos, Fiat Abarth 131, Lancia Stratos, Fiat Abarth 131....The three Seat models are just an encore. Peugeot and Ford suspect evil and stay at home, Porsche sees no reason to resume its activities, Renault-Alpine is still waiting for homologation of the V-6 engine for the new A 310 and nobody really wants to take Opel seriously.
