New names appear on the start list in 1962: Aaltonen, Keinanen, Mäkinen, Skogh, Andersson, Lundberg, Andreasson... The Scandinavians arrive. With them, the Monte enters a new phase. This wild troop from the far north still lacks the right cars, the right team leaders, consistency and many closed-off special stages. But they are there, unmissable, roaring along, spectacular - and not just on their excursions into the snowy landscape. In contrast to these northerners is the Swede Eric Carlsson. He has been competing in rallying for years and wins all over Europe, despite terrifying crashes. This has earned him the nickname "Carlsson on the roof", in close reference to Astrid Lindgren's children's character "Carlsson on the roof".
