Lancia as winner of the Carrera Panamericana "Mexico" in 1953
Summary
The fourth and penultimate edition of the Central American road race was hard to beat in terms of drama and was marked by a great duel between Lancia and Ferrari, with the flawless organization of the Lancia team, but also the reliability of the Turin six-cylinder, winning Juan Manuel Fangio on the Lancia D 24/3100. Unfortunately, the race was overshadowed by several tragic accidents, in which Lancia driver Felice Bonetto also lost his life. In the large touring car category, the Lincoln Capri had no equal opponents, while in the 1.6-liter sports car class there was a duel between Porsche and Borgward.
