This unique road race, which crossed Mexico in stages in a longitudinal direction, contained everything: the ardor of the enthusiastic people, the passion that suddenly took over an entire country, but also the triumph of the automobile in general, which gradually conquered the world in the 1950s and became a means of transport that no longer remained the exclusive privilege of the upper classes. The Carrera Panamericana "Mexico" (official title), also known as the Carrera Mexicana, was held five times from 1950 to 1954, with the major event suddenly gaining prestige (in 1953 and 1954 the Carrera also counted towards the World Sports Car Championship) on a par with traditional events such as the Targa Florio, the Mille Miglia or the 24 Hours of Le Mans.
