Around 18,000 four-cylinder Morgan sports cars have been built to date, but one stands out. In 1962, a Morgan +4 won the two-liter class at the 24 Hours of Le Mans. This car, which was driven to class victory by Chris Lawrence, was auctioned on November 4, 2011, but was not (immediately) sold. After the auction, however, it changed hands for £ 120,000. Chassis 4840 left the production plant in Malvern in May 1961, sprayed in the color "Avian Blue", a slightly pale shade of blue. In keeping with its intended purpose, the open-top sports car with the road registration number "XRX 1" was prepared for racing and registered for the 1961 24 Hours of Le Mans. Chris Lawrence was behind the project, although he was not allowed to take the wheel himself due to a dispute with his mother and stepfather.
