The Donald Healey Motor Company has a long history at Le Mans. The Healey Elliot was launched in 1949 and in 1970 an open mid-engined sports car with a three-liter Repco-Brabham engine was used. In 1965, two Austin Healey Sprites with streamlined bodies were used for the first time. The cars looked similar to the model shown and described here. Donald Healey's cars usually competed in the prototype class so that major modifications could be made to the production cars built by BMC. The contract between Donald Healey and BMC meant that BMC built and sold production cars, while he was responsible for the racing cars and their racing entries in the "Manufacturer`s Championship" at Le Mans, Sebring, Targa Florio and on the Nürburgring.
