At the beginning of June (June 8-9, 2019), the Retromobil Gala Krakow took place in Krakow. It was a Concours d'Elégance for classic cars built up to and including 1955 and was organized by Automobil Hotel Krakow.
The concept of the event was very well received. Numerous teams from Germany, Austria, France, the Czech Republic, Slovakia, Latvia and their own country registered. The participants were able to explore the Unesco World Heritage Sites in Poland. This gave them the opportunity to get to know Polish sights and the country's culture. Krakow, with its magnificent medieval backdrop, provided a good subject for the vehicles.
Most of the vehicles taking part were pre-war cars. For example, a Ford T (1913), a Renault AX (1913) and a Buick Master Six from 1928 were present. Other notable vehicles included a Studebaker Standard Six Touring (1925), a Packard Twelve (1936) and a Riley RMC from 1949.
An expert jury selected the most beautiful among the beautiful. The winner of the "Veteran & Vintage" category was a 1926 Hispano Suiza H6 Sport from France. In the "Post Vintage & Post War" category, the winner was a 1932 Horch 780 from Germany and a Packard Twelve (1936) from Austria took home the "Best of Show" category.
Most of the teams appeared in period clothing and accurately depicted the past with their vehicles. Incidentally, the most stylish costume was crowned with a trophy.
The program of the event was interesting. In addition to the tour of the Wawel Castle in Krakow, the Wielczka Salt Mine was visited. A performance by a band and a court ballet rounded off the program.
Of course, the participants were able to present their vehicles in the best possible places in the city, such as the castle's outdoor courtyard, the main market square and the VIP parking lot directly in front of the salt mine.
Fortunately, the weather also played along and made for a memorable weekend for those present.
