Normally, the Oldtimer Sunday Morning Treffen in Zug is an event where the vehicles rest and the spectators rotate through the huge parking lot to admire the cars present.
On September 4, 2011, however, the event mode was changed to include a complementary Corso. And the audience went along enthusiastically!
Starting at 13:30, group after group set off, each of which completed two to three laps of the old town of Zug. Despite the damp weather, most of the registered vehicles took part, whether open or closed, and the public braved the frequent rain showers under umbrellas and in the arcade café.
From the VW Buggy to the Rolls Royce Phantom
And the perseverance paid off. From the VW Buggy to the luxurious Bentley, from the VW Beetle to the Rolls Royce Phantom II, from the workman's station wagon to the racing car, from the fire engine to the truck, from the Goggomobil or Messerschmitt small car to the huge American sled - the variety was almost unsurpassable. Some roared past, others roared their engines respectfully.
Emotions and memories
Time and again you could hear from the rows of spectators "I used to have one of those" or "I would always have liked to have had one". This brought back many memories and emotions. The reunion with a Renault Heck or VW Beetle almost brought tears to the eyes of some senior citizens. And when a car with a caravan whizzed past, a cheerful laugh broke out. As usual, the motorcycles also provided plenty of entertainment.
Large and enthusiastic crowd of spectators
The participants were not deterred by the rain, loaded their children and their belongings into their vehicles and rode the short laps waving and with smiling faces.
All too soon, the round of vehicles was over and once again it had been shown that driving automotive cultural assets can attract and inspire many people.
Of course, we are hoping for a repeat next year and show some of the vehicles and impressions of the event in our picture gallery .
