The 20th GP Safenwil is already history again. On Saturday, September 3, 2011, around 6,000 spectators were treated to plenty of action. Around 200 cars and a large number of motorcycles, divided into different groups, drove four times four laps around the marked course on the Emil Frey AG factory premises.
Brand clubs with rare vehicles
The brand clubs of Jaguar, Alfa Romeo, MG, Ford, Peugeot, Amilcar and Aston Martinwere present with various vehicles, some of which were very rare. However, the name "Grand Prix" should not be taken too seriously, as for once not only top-class racing cars were competing, but also many everyday cars from past decades.
The oldest vehicle to take part was a former cab, a Renault F AG Taxi de la Marne from 1905.
Open day
With the exception of the lunch break, there was no interruption on the route and no long waiting times, much to the delight of the public. The doors of the various buildings and premises were also open to everyone. Emil Frey AG gave the spectators an insight into the workshops, but also into the exhibition halls of the new cars.
Concours d'Elegance on Sunday
On Sunday, a special exhibition with a Concours d'Elegance was held for the first time to mark the 125th anniversary of the automobile. The spectators were also the jury and awarded prizes to the vehicles they liked best.
Unfortunately, due to the bad weather on Sunday, there were more cars than spectators on the square. Or it proved once again that moving cars are more attractive than stationary and parked ones! Despite everything, it was once again an extremely successful event with many really rare vehicles.
Luck in misfortune
Well, there were also some unlucky people with a lot of luck, as a story from the sidelines shows: An Alfa Romeo 6C 2500 SS Airlux traveling from Italy stopped with engine damage right at the beginning of the breakdown lane after the Sonnenberg Tunnel in Lucerne, which is currently being renovated. At the moment, the risk of traffic jams due to the construction work is already extremely high anyway. Without the luck of getting to the breakdown lane, the Alfa would probably have caused a kilometer-long backlog in the tunnel, served as the cause of various radio traffic reports and caused all kinds of blue lights to light up. That's what you call a stroke of luck.
Our extensive picture gallery provides impressions and glimpses of the vehicles present.
