VW de Luxe 1961 - more performance and comfort with unchanged high quality
Summary
The VW 1200 was thoroughly revised in 1961. Many details had been improved without calling the basic concept into question. Many of the improvements were commented on favorably by the testers. At the same time, however, shortcomings were also pointed out. The conclusion of the test: If you want maximum reliability and operational safety and need a car that is agile and adequately powerful in traffic, but are prepared to accept the inherent disadvantages of the VW, then even today (1961) you can't make a better choice.

Last year, around 15,000 new Volkswagens were registered in Switzerland. The rise of this car, whose export success in our country some ten years ago formed the basis for the unique expansion of the manufacturing plant, has continued ever since, and at present, as has happened repeatedly, the VW is not immediately available in our country. Obviously, the changes announced in the late summer of 1960 have once again fueled demand to such an extent that it exceeds the plant's delivery capacity. This is all the more surprising as the information published in recent weeks about the larger VW 1500 scheduled for presentation in the fall of 1961 could have been expected to have a slowing effect. In reality, the opposite seems to be the case.
