Summary
Year after year, the Wolfsburg-based company perfected its Beetle. But in 1965, the performance of the Volkswagen was increased by 18 percent. And this was just one of 22 improvements made to the tried-and-tested everyday car. No wonder the updated Beetle attracted a lot of interest at the time. And to this day, it has blossomed into a popular and sociable classic car. This driving report is dedicated to the VW 1300, which was built between 1965 and 1967. It describes the history of the model, the reviews at the time and today's driving impressions. The report is illustrated with current and historical photographs. The sound samples are of course also included.

Despite the lack of major modifications and improvements, there is hardly another car that has made it into local car magazines as often as the VW Beetle. Year after year, the trade journals reported on the smallest improvements on many pages, and even a minimal increase in engine capacity or a larger rear window resulted in a wealth of new vehicle test reports. So it is no wonder that the introduction of the VW 1300 in 1965 met with a great deal of interest, as engine power increased by almost 18 percent with this model. The VW Beetle was actually almost a classic car by the mid-1960s, as its design dated back to the years before the war. However, series production only really began after the Second World War, with just 1000 Beetles produced in 1946.
