Summary
Between 1980 and 1985, Toyota built the second generation of the Cressida model, which inherited the technology of its predecessor but was much more modern and European in its shape and appearance. Above all, however, the Cressida was a reliable car with a full range of equipment and an affordable price, which could last for decades thanks to its robust construction, as the thirty-year-old car portrayed here proves. This driving report explains the technology and history of the Cressida model and shows the different generations in pictures from today and back then.

And this was exactly what the bank robbers had in mind when they used the Toyota Cressida as their vehicle in the 1980s. In addition to its inconspicuousness, the Japanese car also had many other qualities in its favor, as the Cressida was robust, always started reliably, had sufficiently agile handling and had a 400-litre trunk and 463 kg payload capacity. There was plenty of room for the loot in many bills, the three accomplices also found space and the car made few demands on the driver, thanks to the automatic transmission and clear cockpit.
