Summary
In the summer of 1960, the magazine 'hobby' was given the opportunity to test the 1961 Beetle. Although many improvements were found, there was great disappointment at the lack of a new look. Today we know that this strategy was probably a wise one and are delighted with the original Beetle. This report presents the original wording of the test at the time, but in particular shows an extensive photo gallery that illustrates the constant improvements made to the successful Wolfsburg model between 1938 and 1980, supplemented by an extremely rare sales brochure from the 1950s.

The sensation does not happen. That is the quintessence of all the opinions and hypotheses that were linked to the appearance of the new VW in 1961. The Beetle remains a Beetle, despite all challenges, all invocations, all forecasts. Of course, some people have already turned their backs on the VW, primarily in Germany itself.
