Rarely has a car divided observers as much as the Studebaker Avanti. Even today, you either love it or hate it. But when you consider that the first vehicles were produced in 1962, at the same time as pontoon Mercedes saloons or the Opel Rekord P2, you can only admire the pioneering design. Raymond Loewy, responsible for the Shell brand emblem, was responsible for the design of the bodywork. His design was without a single straight line, Loewy exulted. The designer had banished the radiator, otherwise the dominant feature of most US cars, to under the front bumper. Trims and fittings were made of stainless steel instead of being chrome-plated. A roll bar spanned the interior and all the lights were of a simple design.
