The 911 Speedster based on the G model had been a surprise success, but the successor based on the 964 came late and only as a narrow version. However, anyone who really wanted one could still order a widebody version, and it was a pretty good investment, as only 15 were made. This report tells the story of the Porsche 964 Speedster and its rare wide brother, illustrated with many pictures.

At the very end of the Porsche 911 G-model came the Speedster, presented at the 1987 IAA and built in 1988 and 1989. It was a star right from the start and achieved prices above the new price early on. However, when the Ferrari bubble burst at the beginning of the 1990s, the market for special new cars also shrank. It was therefore more than uncertain that there would be a Speedster from the 964 model series produced from 1989 onwards. But as early as June 1990, a new Speedster could be seen on the front page of "auto motor und sport", and what a specimen! It was called the "Porsche Speedster in Turbo style". It combined the Speedster upper section with the new 964 underbody, albeit as a turbo version and thus as a widebody version.
