On March 8, 2018, Bonhams invited guests to the Fernandina Beach Golf Club in Florida to auction 101 cars with a total value of around USD 22 million at the Amelia Island Concours. An average of USD 211,611 was expected per car, but despite a good turnout, the average highest bid was actually around USD 167,400, around 20 percent less than hoped for. This was also influenced by the fact that over fifty percent of the lots were offered without a reserve price. This meant that some buyers were able to pick up a bargain. If one compares the estimated values with the highest bids achieved, new buyer preferences appear to be emerging.
