As a successor to the Porsche 944 Turbo in the Porsche Cup, the Zuffenhausen-based company developed a Cup version of the new 964 Carrera 2 in 1989. Weight reductions and technical optimizations made the coupé more suitable for racing without losing its road traffic approval. The 964 Carrera 2 Cup dominated the championship for several years until it was replaced by the 993. This report portrays a 964 Carrera 2 Cup from 1991 and deals with the question of how practical the car is on public roads.
