Not that readers weren't interested at the time, but hardly any manufacturer in the 1970s would have agreed to have the cost of their product assessed in pennies and nickels. But in 1974, the men from the magazine Auto Motor und Sport managed to get hold of a Porsche 911, a so-called G-model, and drive it day in, day out for 60,000 km over a year and a half, recording every incident. When Porsche presented the Type 901 at the IAA in Frankfurt in 1963 as the designated successor to the tried-and-tested 356, there were doubts as to whether customers would really accept the new model.
