Opel has no room for technical experiments. The new Ascona model has only been refined to consolidate its position in the mid-size class between the Kadett and Rekord. We have already had the opportunity to drive the Ascona 1.6 N with 60 hp on regular fuel. What does this Opel newcomer have to offer compared to its predecessor, which achieved a total production of 0.7 million units since late fall 1970? The stylistic similarities between the Opel saloons can hardly be increased; the new Ascona has the same basic shape as the Rekord, which has been in production since January 1972. You have to look closely to distinguish between these two models.
