Summary
In 1992, Mercedes-Benz won the German Touring Car Championship with the 190E 2.5-16 model. However, before this could happen, the company in Sindelfingen had to do a lot of fine-tuning and add two limited-production evolution models to the "normal" 2.5-16, which are now sought after by collectors and loved by sports drivers. This report goes into the history of the Evolution models and shows an Evo I in detail, including a sound sample and sales brochure.

There were not many rally entries, but after an impressive record-breaking 50,000 km demonstration in Nardo in 1983, the decision was made in Stuttgart to use the 190E 2.3-16 in touring car racing. However, in the German Touring Car Championship (DTM), which was launched in 1984, the car repeatedly lost out to more powerful opponents, so Mercedes-Benz upgraded the car in order to stand a chance against the BMW M3 and Audi V8.
