The Maserati Merak was built from 1972 to 1982, basically as an offshoot of the Bora with the technology that came from the Citroën SM. However, the potpourri was quite successful and is even more impressive today as a classic. It is one of the most beautiful sports cars of the seventies, and no wonder, because Giorgetto Giugiaro gave it its elegant dress. And it is also a child of Citroën. From 1968 to 1975, the French car manufacturer Citroën was in charge of Maserati. As a result of the marriage, the Citroën SM was presented in 1970, basically a coupé with DS borrowings and a Maserati engine. The V6 engine had been specially built for the Citroën GT and was available in the same way as the components of the Maserati Bora, which had had a very successful start. And so, in response to economic necessity, a platform strategy was chosen and the small engine was combined with the technical basis of the Bora. The result was the Merak, named after a star 72 light years away from Earth.
