Summary
The Lancia Fulvia Coupé was not only pretty, but also pretty fast, as rally victories around the world showed. And even the Americans were enthusiastic about the Lancia. Today, the nimble Fulvia is still a welcome guest at classic car events, and it has lost none of its charm over the years - quite the opposite.

Preview (beginning of the article)
With the Lancia Flavia, the Turin-based car manufacturer had broken new ground, and just a few years later the new Lancia Fulvia appeared at the Geneva Motor Show in 1963. Like its bigger sister, the Flavia, also created under Professore Dottore Ingeniere Antonio Fessia, the new Fulvia also had front-wheel drive, although the V4 design already used in the Appia was chosen instead of a boxer engine. The angle between the two rows of cylinders was only 12 degrees, less than the Ardea (16 degrees) and more than the Appia (10 degrees). 1019 cm3, two overhead camshafts and a downdraft twin carburetor produced 60 hp at 5800 rpm. The engine was installed in a subframe at an angle of 45 degrees and mounted in front of the front axle, while the gearbox was positioned behind it. The front wheels were guided on upper and lower trapezoidal triangular wishbones, while a rigid axle with Panhard rod was used at the rear. Four disc brakes reliably stopped the soberly designed four-door saloon.
