Summary
For years, Jean Daninos had been accused of his cars being "bastards". They could not be compared with Jaguar, Ferrari or Aston Martin, which built their own engines. Daninos used Chrysler engines in his Facel-Vega. For the small Facellia, he therefore resorted to his own design and practically drove his company to ruin. However, this article focuses on the large models, which are now sought-after collectors' vehicles and fetch high prices at auctions. This article is particularly interesting because of the many historical photos and the eight original brochures.
This article contains the following chapters
- It all began in 1939
- The loss of orders forced Daninos to take new initiatives
- Poor sales despite technical improvements
- High prices, poor sales
- Impeccable workmanship, but unsatisfactory design
- The project grew with the HK 500
- Fastest GT ever measured by the Automobil-Revue
- No success with the small Facel
- The Facel II as the successor to the HK 500

For years, Jean Daninos had been accused of his cars being "bastards". They could not be compared with Jaguar, Ferrari or Aston Martin, which built their own engines. Daninos used Chrysler engines in his Facel-Vega. Facel (Forges et Atéliers de Construction d'Eure et de Loire) was founded in 1939 and was involved in the manufacture of tools for the aircraft industry and also processed sheet metal for various purposes. When the Germans occupied France and the French aircraft industry ceased to exist, Facel specialized in the manufacture of gas generators for cars and trucks. In 1945, Jean C. Daninos was elected director. During this time, the factory built components for the De Havilland turbine engines.
