Summary
The Glas V8 coupé was intended to be cheaper than the competition from Italy and Germany and at the same time support the young Glas car company's drive to move "upmarket". A completely new car with a V8 engine and Italian-influenced bodywork by Pietro Frua placed the car in sight of Maserati and other GT brands. But there was a lack of money and stamina. No more than 800 examples were built between 1965 and 1968. This extensively illustrated driving report shows how this rarity drives and what there is to know about it. And you can also listen to the car!

Preview (beginning of the article)
In the summer of 1965, you could get a Porsche 912 (DM 17,590) or a BMW 2000 CS Coupé (DM 16,990) for 18,000 German marks, while a Mercedes-Benz 230 SL was somewhat more expensive (DM 20,600), but at least it already had six cylinders. At Alfa Romeo, a six-cylinder coupé cost DM 21,950, at Fiat DM 19,700. A Maserati Mistral was only available for DM 49,500, a Jaguar E-Type as a coupé for DM 29,000. Eight-cylinder cars were mainly available from the Americans and from BMW as the 3200 CS (DM 29,850) or from Mercedes-Benz as the Type 600 (DM 56,500). So when people first heard about the Italian-dressed Glas V8 Coupé and rumored a price of DM 18,000, this offer could certainly be described as sensational.
