With the model change from the 12M to the Taunus, Ford also changed its principles. Away with false modesty. From now on, you can show what you've got - and even a little more. While the splendid new shape met with harsh criticism from the trade press, it was well received by the public. It was this that made the Ford Taunus TC a sales success despite teething troubles and design weaknesses. As the opulent 2300 GLX, the Taunus suddenly made even far more expensive cars look cheap.

Can't you please anyone anymore? If you give preference to sophisticated technology, the appearance of the car is criticized. If you then turn the tables at the next model change, the lack of design finesse is lamented. After the ungrateful press reactions to the premiere of the new Ford Taunus in September 1970, thoughts of this kind must have permeated the air at the company headquarters in Cologne. With its front-wheel drive, V4 engine and MacPherson front suspension, the predecessor to the P6 model, which was launched in 1966, followed a concept that was unique among its German competitors, but according to auto motor und sport, "with its pompous shapes, ugly radiator grille and high waistline, it was unpleasant and not very contemporary."
