Ford Mustang Grande - great comfort for the grown-up pony
Summary
It was no bigger than its siblings, the Ford Mustang Grande. But it was more comfortably equipped and remained comparatively rare. For some, it was the best Mustang ever. In 1969 and 1970, a total of around 36,000 Grande models were delivered, some of which received the largest possible engine with a displacement of 5.8 liters and 304 SAE horsepower. This meant that they were not only comfortable, but also fast. This report portrays a Grande model built in 1970 and shows it in modern and historical pictures.

It was no bigger than its siblings, the Ford Mustang Grande. But it was more comfortably equipped and remained comparatively rare. For some, it was the best Mustang ever. Since its launch in 1964, the popular Ford Mustang, which after all was the starting point of an entire vehicle category, the so-called "Pony Cars", had already had to put up with several minor and one major redesign (1967). Ford announced a further redesign for the 1969 model year, making the Mustang longer and wider. Visually, it looked significantly beefier than its predecessors and the headlights were recessed. At 4.76 meters long and 1.82 meters wide, the once compact sports coupé had already taken on truly "American" dimensions, which was also demonstrated by its weight of 1.3 tons and more.
