Beach cars were popular in the late fifties and early sixties. Rich and famous people such as Aristotele Onassis, Yul Brynner, Enrico Berlinguer and Silvio Berlusconi bought a Fiat 500 Jolly to park at their beach house by the sea, on their yacht or on the golf course. The beach car was invented by Farina, but they were also produced by Fissore and Vignale. However, the most produced cars of this type are certainly the Jolly models based on the Fiat 500 and 600, which were produced in small series by Ghia. The Italian playboy Gianni Agnelli is said to have inspired the development of the Fiat 500 Jolly. For his 82-foot-long yacht Agneta, he needed a land vehicle that was light, open and maneuverable in tight spaces. As chairman of Fiat, he naturally had the means and possibilities to realize such an idea.
