The new Fiat mid-range was awaited with great interest in 1961. And the Fiat 1300/1500 did not disappoint, at least not the 'writer' of the magazine 'hobby'. He found hardly a fly in the ointment and praised the interior design, performance and driving characteristics. Not so long ago, hobby published an article entitled 'Into battle, 600s!', which examined the opportunities that had opened up almost overnight for the then newly acquired market for larger small cars. We wrote that it would be a fight to the death - and developments proved us right. In the meantime, many months of economic prosperity have passed and we haveraised our standards - including those of our car: the front line has gradually shifted. The year 1961 will go down in automotive history as the year of the car battle in the mid-range segment. Judging by the first 'deployment reports' from the mid-range front, it will be no less fierce and no less hard-fought. On the contrary!
