The five passenger car brands produced by the General Motors Group in the USA today have a common father, although his name can no longer be found on any of these cars' radiators. It was William Durant who pulled the strings and pursued a clever production and sales policy. All companies retained their names within Durant's "General Motors Company"; there was merely a coordinated model relationship. Buick played an important role in this group: from 8820 cars in 1908, production was increased to 14,606 vehicles in 1909. A comparison with the Ford T-model introduced in 1908, which was sold in far smaller numbers than Buick in 1909 and 1910, makes it clear what this meant - William C. Durant could say: "Buick is the largest automobile factory in the world. A lot of luxury for 200 dollars extra.
