Summary
Although the F12 was a completely new car, from the outside it was hardly distinguishable from its predecessor, the Junior de Luxe. Only the slightly higher windows made it appear a little more leggy. The two-stroke engine was also retained, which was traditional for DKW, but also had some disadvantages compared to its four-stroke competitors. This vehicle report describes the strengths and weaknesses of the little one and shows it in many pictures.

None other than the Scotsman Jim Clark started his great racing career with a DKW. He drove it in his first race at an airfield near Aberdeen in 1956, where the victory set the tone for what was to follow. In January 1963, the DKW F12 replaced the Junior, actually the Junior de Luxe. The DKW F12 was a completely new car, but with all the features retained, it only looked like a further development of the Junior. The front of the new car was only slightly changed. The design idea of the sloping front fenders came from the USA and was already outdated by the time the F12 was presented in 1959. The F12 was actually a step backwards compared to the DKW Junior. Due to the higher windows, its overall appearance was narrower and more high-legged, although the external dimensions were hardly changed.
