In 1953, a motoring journalist reporting on the failed sensations of the 1951 IAA sighed: "The Brütsch Hermit, that was another car that drove people wild." This "Hermit" was to be built as a single-seater microcar with a Lloyd engine. However, this announcement proved to be just as optimistic as the reference to production starting "shortly". During the 1950s, it was a common sight at motor shows to see quite acceptable prototypes of small and very small vehicles on small stands. These always attracted a great deal of interest from the public. The price of the vehicles was always below that of the Lloyd passenger cars. The latter were produced - by the standards of the time - in quite large series and thus set the standards. Original ideas were often realized in the new designs. Externally attractive bodies alternated with stylistic impossibilities.
