Summary
With the Bitter CD, Erich Bitter had delivered a dream sports car based on the Opel Diplomat. When new models arrived at Opel, Bitter also had to change his plans and launched the Bitter SC, which was more comfortable and spacious than its predecessor. Was this and the design reminiscent of the Ferrari 365 GT 2+2 / 400 enough for success? This driving report describes the history of the Bitter SC and shows an example in many pictures, supplemented by historical photographs and a sound sample.

With the Bitter CD, Erich Bitter had based his design on the Maserati Ghibli, but the successor model SC was more like the Ferrari 365 GT 2+2 / 400. They both looked elegant, and they were also expensive. The SC was even available as a convertible and with all-wheel drive. A success story? Erich Bitter had already started thinking about a successor to the popular Bitter CD, launched in 1973, in 1977. The end of the V8 Diplomat platform at Opel was in sight and the successor at Opel would be built on a new technical basis. The new Bitter SC was already available as a prototype in September 1979. The "SC" stood for "Senator Coupé". The SC was a four-seater coupé with two doors and a notchback.
