BMW stretch yourself - BMW 700 LS Luxury in the (historic) test
Summary
With the 700 LS Luxus, BMW gave the 700 sedan a portion of, how could it be otherwise, luxury. With an extended wheelbase and lots of chrome, it was intended to satisfy 700 buyers who wanted a little more prestige for their car. The magazine 'hobby' tested the enlarged BMW 700 in 1962. This report reproduces the wording of the test at the time and illustrates it with historical images.

Where the water of the Isar still flows crystal clear, a guaranteed genuine Münchner Kindl christened it "Langer Spezi" with Isar water. That's what we want to keep calling it, especially as the BMW authorities couldn't think of anything more original for their brand new 700 than the letters L for "Limousine" and S for "Special", followed by the designation "Luxury": BMW 700 LS Luxus. The "Lange Spezi" bears its name because it is 34 centimeters longer than the normal 700 sedan; unfortunately, it is also 70 kilograms heavier. Our modest inquiry as to whether the engine might have been given a little more was met with a very regretful shrug of the shoulders. So it was still 700 cc and 30 hp, so the test chicanes were clear to us: head up into the mountains, give it a "good going over" and see how far the 70 kilogram weight increase could have damaged the proverbial temperament of the BMW 700.
