The E90 series was already the fifth edition of the BMW three-series. Between 2005 and 2012, just over three million units were produced as saloons, estate cars (Touring), coupés and convertibles. They were equipped with four, six and eight-cylinder engines (M3). In order to be successful in racing, a particularly rare evolutionary vehicle was created: the 320si. The 320si was announced in November 2005, soon after the introduction of the E90. There were few differences on the outside and the Evo-E90 also remained close to the series inside. The special model, limited to 2600 units, differed most under the hood.
