Markus Höttinger and Hans-Georg Bürger - two friends, one destiny

They were friends and exceptional talents. And they both died a cruel death after a meteoric rise as racing drivers - the German Hans Georg Bürger and the Austrian Markus Höttinger. Rainer Braun was able to follow their short careers up close and remembers the unforgotten racing drivers. This report comes from the 3rd volume of the popular book series "Hallo Fahrerlager" by Rainer Braun from 2009. Hockenheim, October 1976: For the first time, a "Supercup of German Champions" was held on the small circuit. Alfa Romeo provided 15 identical Alfasud 1300 TIs in the current Cup version, which were drawn by lot for the participants in both races. A one-off event, by the way, for which unfortunately neither the organizer nor the manufacturer can be found afterwards. Manfred Winkelhock and I tussle for victory as a white car repeatedly interferes in our already delicate battle. The unknown fighter looks over at us almost provocatively, as if to say, "Hey guys, here I am, now take me seriously." After fending off the sometimes snotty attacks with difficulty and securing the first two places in the final sprint, we march straight over to the white Alfa in the parc fermé to take a closer look at our previously unknown opponent.
