Preview (beginning of the article)
Only rarely were the experts as unanimous as with the BMW 2800 CS. The car really did look gorgeous, even if some described it as almost too pretty. And it was sporty to boot, in a discreet, understated way. The predecessor of the BMW 2800 CS was the BMW 2000 Coupé, which was presented in June 1965 and developed 120 hp with its two-liter four-cylinder engine. Wilhelm Hofmeister was responsible for the design. The "glazed" headlights were a special design feature, unique in the history of BMW. 13,700 of these coupés in various configurations were produced between 1965 and 1970. Based on the New Class sedan, BMW presented the six-cylinder 2500/2800 sedan in the fall of 1968, equipped with new front and rear axles, disc brakes all round and a magical six-cylinder in-line engine. The saloon was well received and the engine in particular received rave reviews.
