After nine years, the BMW 02 model series had reached its final year, but lived on beyond 1976 in the 1502 economy version. The economy slogan normal fuel could be disappointing when compared with the 1602 (Super). What was to be thought of the cheapest, but not the cheapest smallest BMW? BMW managed to stay on the ball during the car crisis, and the 02 series in particular contributed a great deal to this. The 02 successor (as the 3 model series) was launched at the IAA in the fall of 1975: Finally more rear seat space and optional four-door, also more suspension comfort as in the 518/520 and last but not least with considerably improved impact safety of the body. But the further developed 1502 will certainly fit into the picture, and not just because of the price. No competitor in the 02 series has the full upper-class image associated with technology and name. And after the price increase, the gap between the 1502 and the 1602 widened to DM 1340.
