On February 1, 2023, RM/Sotheby's will hold a major auction as usual in Paris on the occasion of the Rétromobile. The auction will now be held at 99 Rue de Rivoli, practically around the corner from the Louvre.
Under the hammer will be 87 full-size cars and one children's car as well as some automobilia (including Ferrari tool sets, steering wheels and alloy wheels). The total value of the vehicles is around EUR 60 million, meaning that each car is expected to fetch EUR 684,659. Around a fifth of the vehicles will be sold without a limit.
Young offer
On average, the cars are around 45 years old, i.e. comparatively young. Seven pre-war vehicles will be auctioned, but 23 cars are not yet classic cars. 19 cars are from the current millennium.
Porsche and Ferrari most strongly represented
16 Porsches and 14 Ferraris are the largest brand contingents. Mercedes-Benz (8 vehicles, plus 1 AMG), Alfa Romeo (6) and Lamborghini (6) follow at a distance.
All other manufacturers are represented by a handful of cars at most. Exotic brands are also on offer, such as Ferves or Osca.
Exceptional Zagato selection
RM/Sotheby's can bring no fewer than five sports cars with Zagato bodies under the hammer in Paris. There is an Alfa Romeo SZ from 1992 (EUR 75,000 to 95,000), but also a Giulia TZ from 1965 (EUR 1.2 to 14 million).
A Giulietta SZ from 1961 (EUR 400,000 to 600,000), a Lancia Flaminia Sport 3C from 1962 (EUR 300,000 to 350,000) and an Osca 1600 GT from 1963 (EUR 380,000 to 450,000) are in between in terms of value.
Interesting iso selection
The range of Iso sports cars is also unusually broad. Four cars from the company's early period can be bid on in Paris.
It starts with an Iso Rivolta IR 300 from 1968 (EUR 145,000 to 175,000) and goes up to a magnificent green Iso Grifo A3/C from 1965 (EUR 700,000 to 1 million). Two Iso Grifo from 1969 and 1971 complete the quartet.
Lamborghini Miura and Countach in a multipack
Three Countach, two Miura and a 350 GT from Lamborghini are looking for new owners at RM in Paris.
The price spectrum ranges from EUR 550,000 to 1.8 million.
Many super classics
In any case, there are many super classics for sale in Paris, from the Alfa Romeo 1900 C Super Sprint Touring Coupé from 1954, a Ferrari 250 GT Lusso from 1963 and a 275 GTB/4 from 1967 to many Mercedes-Benz and Porsche vehicles.
The Porsche 904 GTS with an interesting racing history
One of the most valuable cars in the auction is the Porsche 904 GTS from 1964 with chassis number 904-036. The plastic sports car was sold new to Udo Schütz and achieved good results in many hill climbs and also on the circuit.
Now the plastic coupé, which also raced at Gaisberg and Rossfeld, is to find a new stable for EUR 2 to 2.25 million.
The factory SLC 5.0
None other than Björnd Waaldegaard is said to have driven the 450 SLC 5.0 works car from Mercedes-Benz in 1979. Back then, people were still comfortable driving rallies because the SLC at least had an automatic transmission and power steering on board.
EUR 800,000 to 1 million has now been set for the rally car, which has been with the same owner for over three decades.
Special Japanese cars
Two completely different Japanese sports cars, which nevertheless followed similar goals, are looking for a new garage at RM in Paris.
There is the almost new Lexus LFA from 2011 on one side and the Toyota GT 2000 from 1967 on the other.
Bids of just over half a million euros are expected for both.
The most recent are the most expensive
The most expensive is a Bugatti Chiron from 2022 (EUR 4.2 to 5.5 million), which is expected to find a new owner, while an Enzo from 2003 is expected to fetch EUR 3.8 to 4.2 million.
But two McLaren cars that are less than three years old are also on offer for millions.
A Ferrari 643 from 1991, once driven by Jean Alesi and Gianni Morbidelli, is also expected to attract a lot of money.
There are also cars worth millions among the oldest cars, such as the Bugatti 55 from 1932 (EUR 1.8 to 2.2 million), the Bugatti 43 Roadster from 1928 (EUR 1 to 1.3 million) and the Alfa Romeo 6C 2300B Mille Miglia Berlinetta Touring from 1938 (EUR 1 to 1.4 million).
Further information and many pictures can be found on the RM/Sotheby's website.
