The Museo Storico Alfa Romeo in the Milan suburb of Arese will be open to the public again from June 24, 2020 - the brand's 110th birthday. Extensive hygiene and safety measures are in place to protect visitors and staff.
Fun for young and old
To mark the opening, the museum is also offering guided tours of the storage rooms for the first time, where a further 150 vehicles, models and collection items are kept. Visitors can also take a spin in their own vehicle on the museum's own race track or take part in conferences and demonstrations. Another highlight is the new Alfa Romeo Giulia GTA, a special model for the 110th anniversary. Changed opening hours apply: Open daily from June 24 to 28, 2020, then only at weekends until further notice.
The pandemic-related break is coming to an end for the Alfa Romeo factory museum. A very special date has been chosen for the reopening: June 24, 2020, the day the brand celebrates its 110th birthday. Until Sunday (June 28, 2020), the Museo Storico Alfa Romeo in the Milan suburb of Arese will be dedicated to this anniversary. To mark the occasion, the museum is open daily from 10 am to 6 pm. After that, visitors will only be admitted on Saturdays and Sundays until further notice.
Previously unpublished exhibits
To celebrate its birthday, the museum has a very special surprise in store for clubs and enthusiasts. For the first time, Alfa Romeo fans will have the opportunity to visit areas that are not normally open to the public. Parts of the collection that are not on display in the museum are stored on two floors of the former administrative center in Arese. This treasure trove contains, among other things
- Another 150 vehicles
- Dozens of automobile, aircraft and ship engines
- Hundreds of models, trophies, works of art and accessories
- A racing motorboat
The exhibits stored here, which are not part of the museum's permanent exhibition, represent an exceptional reserve. The museum uses them, for example, to stage themed temporary exhibitions. They are also a unique opportunity for Alfa Romeo to take part in external events and exhibitions of all kinds.
As part of the reopening, this collection can only be visited by prior reservation in groups of no more than ten people with a guide. Information and bookings at [email protected].
On Wednesday (June 24, 2020) and the following weekend, visitors will also have the chance to drive their own Alfa Romeo on the museum's test track. To avoid large crowds, registration is also compulsory here ([email protected]).
Exclusively for the anniversary...
The new Alfa Romeo Giulia GTA is one of the stars of the anniversary celebrations in Arese. Visitors can get an exclusive first impression of the limited special edition model.
In addition, the museum will be giving insights into lesser-known chapters of Alfa Romeo's history with two presentations. The first event (Saturday, June 27, 3 p.m.) will focus on the Spider Monoposto concept car, the extreme version of the 916 series roadster. The second lecture (Sunday, June 28, 3 p.m.) will be about the four-wheel drive of the Alfa Romeo 164 Q4. Both events are included in the admission price, but a seat reservation is required ([email protected]).
A true angel
The Alfa Romeo Museum is divided into three themed areas. "Timeline" shows the industrial development of the company. "Bellezza" is dedicated to the beauty, style and design of the traditional Italian brand's vehicles. And "Velocità", a synthesis of technology and driving pleasure, takes visitors through Alfa Romeo's successes in motorsport. To mark the reopening, some areas have been redesigned. For example, the so-called "Angelo dei bimbi" (Angel of the Children) can be seen in the aircraft engine section. The small SAI Ambrosini 1001 Grifo aircraft first flew from Milan to Buenos Aires in Argentina in 1949 and then through South America to collect donations for the reconstruction of Italy.
Covid-19 protective measures
The Museo Storico Alfa Romeo Museum, inaugurated in 1976 and reopened in 2015 after a complete renovation, resumed operations on June 24, 2020 after a break due to the pandemic. Strict hygiene and safety measures are in place to protect the health of guests and employees. For example, the body temperature of all visitors will be checked at the entrance and people with an elevated temperature will not be admitted. The use of face masks is mandatory and markings remind visitors to observe social distancing rules. The walkways at the entrance and exit are separated. In addition, cashless payment is preferred, both at the museum ticket office and in the Alfa Romeo Store.
The museum's exhibition area covers around 6,000 square meters. Together with the outdoor areas, there is enough space for visitors and staff to maintain the required distances. If the number of visitors is particularly high, the entrance can be temporarily closed to avoid large gatherings of people.
Online booking for admission to the museum is not required. However, guided tours of the museum or the collection, which is open for the first time, must be booked in advance and are organized in groups of a maximum of ten people. Reservations must also be made for participation in special activities. In addition to the lectures, these include the live broadcast of the Formula 1 race for the Austrian Grand Prix (July 5, 2020). Access will only be granted until the maximum permitted number of participants has been reached.
