Two experts, Gerhard Wickern and Horst-Dieter Görg, will be giving insights into the history of wind tunnels and a particularly aerodynamic vehicle, the so-called Schlörwagen - also known as the "Göttinger Ei" - at the next lecture evening at the Audi museum mobile. The event on Thursday, April 18, begins at 6 p.m. in the Audi museum mobile; registration is required.
Reflections on the Schlörwagen
"Early vehicle wind tunnels" is the title of Gerhard Wickern's lecture. Wickern, who was a specialist manager for aerodynamics in the Audi development department for over 30 years, describes how test bench technology in wind tunnels has continuously developed over the course of time. The second speaker of the evening, motor journalist Horst-Dieter Görg, will focus on the so-called Schlörwagen. This has a cW value of 0.186, which is still unrivaled today, and takes its name from designer Karl Schlör von Westhofen-Dirmstein, who developed it between 1937 and 1939 at the Aerodynamic Research Institute in Göttingen.
Due to its characteristic shape, the seven-seater vehicle is also known as the "Göttingen Egg". The lecture evening is dedicated to the special exhibition "Windschnittig? Aerodynamic concepts in automobile construction up to 1945" - and of course the Göttingen Egg can also be admired as an exhibit there.
After the lecture, guests will have the opportunity to talk to the speakers in the special exhibition.
