So not after all. For a long time, things looked good for a Veterama Mannheim in October 2020, but the organizers finally came to the conclusion that a version adapted to the current conditions would not be in keeping with the Veterama spirit and, above all, would represent a risk. The Seidel family believes accordingly:
"We are of the opinion that as the organizer of such a large event, you also have a great responsibility. Especially towards our exhibitors and visitors, as well as for our staff and all service providers."
More than a third of the Veterama scene travels from abroad, in some cases even from so-called risk countries and regions.
At least half of all those who attend a Veterama are in the so-called risk groups.
Large events still prohibited
The authorities responsible for approving this major event have issued a clear statement that large-scale events are prohibited up to and including December 31, 2020.
However, even if Veterama had been granted a permit to take place, the event would not have been feasible due to the associated conditions:
- Veterama with protective masks, perhaps possible, we already have design templates...
- Veterama with minimum distance?
- Veterama with limited exhibitor spaces?
- Veterama with a limited number of visitors?
No! Such an event would not have corresponded to the cheerful Veterama character that has prevailed ever since.
Veterama should remain a cult event for the mechanic scene. Informal, cheerful and unique.
Again in a year?
The Veterama organizers hope that this terribly stressful corona pandemic will be over next year and are even considering adding an additional summer date in Mannheim to the Veterama calendar for two cancelled events in the future.
