David Brown Automotive, known to many from the Geneva Motor Show for the Speedback GT, a kind of reinterpreted Aston Martin DB4/5, has announced the "Mini Remastered". In principle, the DBA Mini is a slightly modernized Urmini.
It is built on the basis of a new body shell, which is reinforced in some places compared to the original, but above all is better soundproofed.
Although the exterior of the finished Mini closely resembles the original, the modernized radiator grille and the rear lights with modern technology are striking.
Inside, there is a modern navigation system and even a USB port. The instruments are also new, but have a look reminiscent of the past.
The Mini has also been technically upgraded. The completely overhauled engines are said to deliver around 50% more power than the original and are combined with a transmission that has also been extensively overhauled.
Of course, you don't have to do without modern operating convenience, even "Keyless Go", i.e. opening and starting without a key, is possible. Apple CarPlay or Android Auto are also on board, as is a sound system with four speakers.
David Brown Automotive attaches particular importance to the excellent finish. It takes around four weeks for the car to be completely painted. There are eleven standard colors without metallic particles and two metallic colors to choose from, including beautiful shades such as "Love over Gold" (orange), "Velvet Green" and "Laguna Sunrise" (bordeaux).
The roof can be painted black, grey or in body color. Six colors for the interior and the same color selection as for the roof are available for the dashboard. Special requests are of course possible given the amount of manual work involved - around 1000 hours are needed to build a Mini - but they cost extra.
Even so, the "new" Mini is not exactly cheap. When asked about the price, which has not yet been officially communicated, the answer is that you shouldn't expect any money back on £75,000. So you can expect to pay around EUR 88,000 or CHF 94,000, which is quite a hefty price for a Mini.
Initially, the Mini Remastered will be offered in three versions, as "Inspired by Café Racers", as "Inspired by Monte Carlo" and finally as a standard edition.
