The Touring Car Classics (TWC) can boast a record number of entries just one month after the start of registrations: 55 teams have already signed up for the popular motorsport series for classic touring cars.
The majority of participants have been won over by the series' concept of cooperating with the Drivers' Association of Historic Racing Cars in Europe (FHR). This makes it possible to combine the top events of the classic world with current motorsport.
Planning security
But that's not all: above all, you have planning security thanks to the calendar of events that has largely been fixed for weeks. This presents itself as a top-class mix: the established and sustainably growing absolute top events of classic motorsport are perfectly linked with the races of the current racing cars - in the ADAC GT Masters event package, which has also been fixed for a long time.
"This link has been so well received by the teams, drivers and partners," summarizes TWC Head of Organization Michael Thier, "that we can already present a record starting field with more than 55 registered vehicles after just four weeks. We have already been able to welcome 7 brands - Alpina, Audi, BMW, Ford, Mercedes, Opel, Volvo with 34 different models/variants."
Vehicle diversity
In fact, the already registered starting field includes a large number of touring car and racing legends, such as Mercedes-Benz 190E 2.3-16V and 2.5-16 Evo II, BMW M3 DTM, BMW 635, BMW M1, BMW E36/E46, BMW 3.0 CSL, Audi 200 Quattro and A4, Zakspeed Ford Capri Turbo, Volvo 850 T5, Opel Astra DTM, Opel Kadett, Opel Monza, Opel Ascona, Porsche 993 RSR (Manthey), Ford Escort and many more.
This means that the Touring Car Classics is virtually a seamless continuation of the great era of touring car motorsport.
"This result, with 55 entries already," adds Michael Thier, "far exceeds our boldest forecasts. This underlines the growing importance of historic vehicle events with their extremely uncomplicated conditions for all those directly involved. In addition, experience with registrations in recent years has shown that many teams and drivers only submit their entries 'at the last minute' - I assume that we will be able to top the impressive figures we have now at the end."
So we can look forward to an exciting TWC season, and hopefully the pandemic will also allow spectators to attend, as they are almost the icing on the cake for the atmosphere at the race track.
