Yesterday, Monday, January 18, 2020, the Timmelsjoch Motorcycle Museum burned down. The fire was apparently started the night before, but it is not yet known why. The fire department was able to prevent the fire from spreading to the other buildings (restaurant, valley station), but not from burning out the museum.
According to its own advertising, "Europe's highest motorcycle museum", the museum, which specializes in historic motorcycles, combines spectacular museum architecture with attractive exhibits on 3000 square metres. In addition to around 230 classic two-wheelers from 100 manufacturers, there were also some automotive rarities to admire. The opening was just over four years ago (April 2016).
According to current reports, the museum is a total loss. This means that the Alpine crossing between Austria and Italy has lost an attraction that is particularly popular with motorcyclists.
