On May 27 and 28, 2017, Lucerne will host Swiss Classic World, the already well-established classic car fair with a wide range of collector and enthusiast vehicles.
Two major special shows - Monteverdi and Carrosserie Tüscher - were announced a few weeks ago, and now further attractions have been announced, including a special show with Sauber racing cars, including a C2, a C6 and a C9.
The Sauber C2 (the "C" goes back to Peter Sauber's wife Christine) was PP Sauber AG's first sales car in 1971 and was produced in two examples. Hans Kühnis bought the exhibited car with chassis number C2.001 and drove it to several victories in the 1971 Swiss Championship. One anecdote is quite credible: the shape of the C2 was not designed by a sports car designer, but by a gravestone sculptor.
The Sauber C6 was designed by Sauber in 1982 for the then new "Group C" category. The wind tunnel tests in Stuttgart led to the first contacts with Mercedes. A monstrous rear wing made the car attractive and unmistakable. However, the vibrations of the V8 Ford Cosworth engine shattered all dreams of success for the time being. The Swiss Walter Brun was involved in the "C6" project from the very beginning and took over the two vehicles at the end of the season. He continued to use them with BMW engines under the name SEHCAR in the World Endurance Championship. One of the surviving racing cars will be on display at the Swiss Classic World.
From 1988, Sauber was the official Mercedes works team with the C9. The main sponsor was AEG from the Daimler-Benz Group. The Group C sports car was fitted with a Mercedes-Benz V8 engine, which was modified by the Swiss Heini Mader. With twin turbos, the engine delivered a solid 700 hp, and even over 900 hp for a short time. With the exception of Le Mans, where all vehicles had to be withdrawn after a tire burst in practice, the 1988 season was extremely successful. So successful, in fact, that the Mercedes cars were straightaway repainted as Silver Arrows. In 1989, the C9 dominated the competition at will and won the world championship title with several double victories, including at Le Mans. The only example that has been preserved in its original AEG design will be on display at the Swiss Classic World.
Extraordinary cars are also expected at various dealer stands, such as an authentic Auburn Speedster from the USA at Franks Originale.
Zwischengas will also have a stand again together with SwissClassics Revue, showing a VW Type 2 "Pritsche" with a Formula V formcar, i.e. exactly the vehicles that can be seen on the cover of the May issue of SwissClassics Revue.
