Preparations have been underway since December 2017
The new website has also been online since December. And July 6/7, 2018 is fast approaching.
Not only 128 special stage kilometers await the participants and fans in the natural jewel and UNESCO World Heritage Site Wachau, which are divided into 14 stages. The "Night of Thunder" at the ÖAMTC Driving Technique Center Wachauring and the "Hexenkessel" (a city course) are once again the two fixed highlights in the program.
Rallycrossers do the honors
Three legends of the sociable sport will once again take to the wheel of their rally and rallycross cars at the venue where rallycross history in Austria began in 1973. Three-time European rallycross champion Franz Wurz will put the spurs to the legendary three-liter Stratos on the Wachauring. The father of Formula 1 and WEC driver Alexander Wurz and initiator of the ÖAMTC driving technique centers will also be seen at the wheel of an Audi Quattro S1 on the special stages.
No less legendary is the name Herbert Grünsteidl, who first appeared in rallying in 1965. With the Salzburg Beetle, he caused many a highly regarded competitor to worry in the 1970s, but his greatest success came in 1977 when he brought the European Rallycross Championship title to Austria with the Renault Alpine A310. In the Group B rally legends, he will put the spurs to a BMW 1600 ti.
The third member of the team is Walter Mayer, who had to make do without a European Championship title, but was nevertheless a feared rallycrosser in an Audi Quattro and often demonstrated on home soil to the Finns and Swedes, who were so dominant in the sport, where "the Bartl gets the most". He was also a test driver during Audi's glorious rally era and had the pleasure of testing each of the Quattros before their debut. The man from Gießhübl will also be driving one of his former test cars, an Audi Quattro S1, in the Group B rally legends.
Once again, no expense or effort will be spared to make the teams and spectators' stay at the Group B rally legends as pleasant as possible. This is why there will once again be a completely covered paddock, which is made possible by one of the largest tents available in Europe with around 4,500 square meters.
Further information will be published on the website on an ongoing basis.
