The Silverstone Classic 2015 traditionally takes place on the last weekend of July and is held at the UK's premier race track. Next year it will be on July 24-26 , when what has become the world's biggest classic car racing festival will celebrate its own 25th anniversary !
The very first historic festival at Silverstone was held on July 28-29, 1990. With its concept of becoming the flagship racing event exclusively for historic motorsport, the Silverstone Classic was an instant success.
It remains so today, as evidenced by the record-breaking figures for the latest edition of the multi-award-winning Silverstone Classic; the 2014 event attracted a staggering 94,000 people and featured no fewer than 23 races. A total of 1,125 participants took part, which was more than ever!
In addition, the 2014 Classic hosted the world's largest gathering of Grand Prix cars as well as the unforgettable 100th anniversary of Maserati and the 50th anniversary of the Ford Mustang.
The three-day festival features the best of historic racing with more than eight generations of motorsport, as well as live music from classic rock bands and a wide range of family entertainment with trade stands, one-off retail outlets, a two-day classic car auction, an air show and a large display of classic cars often important to automotive history.
2015 will be an important milestone for the Silverstone Classic and special plans are already being made to celebrate the Silver Jubilee in an appropriate way, says Nick Wigley. It is amazing how many of the drivers and vehicles from back then are still fully involved in the Silverstone Classic today. Perhaps the success is also due to the fact that every year there is more and more great motorsport history for enthusiasts of all ages to experience and enjoy, which makes the Silverstone Classic even bigger and better, according to the event manager.
