On June 6, 2015, SIAI-Marchetti celebrates its 100th anniversary with a meeting and a big party in Lombardy. Alfa Romeo classics are also invited.
Aircraft engines from Alfa Romeo
Alfa Romeo is known for having built more than just cars. The Italian manufacturer produced trucks, buses and engines for boats and airplanes. Among other things, the Pomigliano d'Arco plant in southern Italy became famous for its aviation division.
100 years ago, the Società Idrovolanti Alta Italia (SIAI) was founded by Luigi Capè and Raffaele Conflenti. In the 1930s and 1940s, SIAI-Marchetti, as the company was then known, installed the famous Alfa Romeo 9-cylinder radial engine in its aircraft.
A famous test and bomber pilot of the time was Max Capelli, the father of the organizers Fausto and Gino Capelli. SIAI-Marchetti eventually became part of the Aermacchi Group via Finmeccanica and Agusta.
Alfa Romeo as a guest at the festival
Owners of Alfa Romeo classics built up to 1984 are invited to take part in the "SIAI-Marchetti - cento anni da festeggiare con Alfa Romeo" celebrations in the Lombardy region around Somma Lombardo and Sesto Calende at the beginning of June 2015.
