The Roßfeldrennen will take place from September 27 to 29, 2013 . It looks back on a long history.
Work on Roßfeldhöenringstrasse began as early as 1927, but it was to take until 1955 before the last section was completed.
Between 1925 and 1928, mountain races with motorcycles and cars took place on the steep sandy route from Berchtesgaden to Obersalzberg. The Salzberg race attracted renowned racing drivers to Berchtesgaden, including the unforgettable duel between Hans Stuck and Rudolf Caracciola in 1928.
The legendary Rossfeld race
From 1958, the race on the Roßfeldstrasse near Berchtesgaden was an international competition for touring cars, Grand Tourisme vehicles and sports and Formula Junior cars, and from 1961 it was classified as a round of the European Hillclimb Championship. Well-known racing drivers such as Sepp Greger, Edgar Barth, Gerhard Mitter, Hans Herrmann, Rolf Stommelen and Johannes Ortner won the "International Alpine Mountain Prize Rossfeld".
On June 8, 1968, two-time European mountain champion Ludovico Scarfiotti lost his life at the wheel of a Porsche 910 Bergspyder during training.
The race was organized by the Automobilclub von Deutschland (AvD) together with the Berchtesgadener Automobilclub (BAC).
In addition to the well-known works drivers from the major car manufacturers, ambitious private drivers - including local motorsport enthusiasts - competed in the various classes. Almost anything with four wheels - from Porsches to Goggomobiles - was raced uphill.
The energy crisis put an end to the hill climb for good in 1973 and with it one of the biggest spectator attractions in Berchtesgaden.
25 years later, the spirit of the Roßfeldrennen was revived and the Roßfeld Historic took place from 1998 to 2010, during which the hill climb on the Roßfeld was held again - naturally as a regularity event
Impressive starter list 2013
There are some gems on the starter list that has already been announced. Ernst Piech, for example, will start in the Austro Daimler ADR 6 from 1929.
Prince Leopold of Bavaria will take his place behind the wheel of the legendary BMW 700 RS Bergspyder from 1961.
And it will also be interesting to see the only Martini coupé still in existence, built in 1963 on a BMW 700 basis, as these plastic sports cars are rarely seen.
Dieter Quester will be driving a Chevron BMW B21. And Jochen Mass will be at the wheel of the Mercedes Benz SSK. There will be Bugattis and a large number of Abarth sports and racing cars on display.
